“Wear a Piece of D-Day’s Historic Metal on Your Wrist

The 6th of June this year marks the 78th anniversary of D-Day, the historic landing of the Allied forces on the beaches of Normandy. Aimed at liberating Europe from the Germans, the WW2 operation was considered the grandest seaborne invasion, involving air, land, and sea forces.

Marston Mat: The heart of the D-Day watch

In commemoration of this fateful event and the heroes who sacrificed their lives for freedom, we are launching our special D-Day Marston Mat watch on 6th June’22 Link. One of the key features making it exceptional is the Marston Mat dial, a perforated steel material developed for the makeshift landing strips and runways in the USA before WW2. The material was named after Marston, North Carolina, which is next to Camp Mackall airfield, where it was first used.

The story behind Praesidus’s Marston Mat dial

Marston Mat was used in Normandy, where the landings used to happen in 1944. Its remains were then picked up by villagers and sent to the nearby museum, where it was kept.

Last year, a member of the Praesidus team celebrated D-Day in the town. During the celebration, he met the mayor and talked to him about our brand, products, and passion for the veteran community. The mayor loved the entire concept of Praesidus and got impressed by what we do. So, he gave us permission to get the mat from the museum and suggested using it in our watches.

Then, we sent it to an industrial metal factory, where it was de-rusted and laminated from its original thickness to 1mm. From there, the material was cut into pieces and installed on the watch dials

This is how the D-Day Marston Mat dial watch was born.
