Fanos Watches – A Microbrand Diver – A Guiding Light In The Sea

Interview with Caesar from Fanos Watches!

Please tell me a little about yourselves. Where do you come from, where do you live, what are you doing a single day, your hobbies?

My sister Gizelle and I are born and raised in Montreal, Canada. I have a background in business and Gizelle in design, we both have a passion for aesthetics and timepieces! We have had a bit of an obsession for watches for around 9 years now, creating quite the collection along the way. During my free time I love to read, travel, try new foods and practice martial arts.

When did the idea for your own watch brand come up? What was the trigger?!

Around 3 years ago I realized that I wanted to have a timepiece that was to my specifications, unique in its own way and affordable. Knowing some people in the watch industry, I realized that I can not only make that a reality — but that I could offer this to others who also appreciate my viewpoint. With the help of Gizelle, and our part-time marketing team, we managed to launch our campaign in April 2021!

Tell me some specifications about the watch!

How was the name and the logo created and what exactly does it mean?

FANOS is a term of Greek and Egyptian origins which translates into lantern.

Our diver watches aim to be a guiding light (specially with all the SuperLuminova!) in the sea and given our background, we saw the name fitting for our brand.

The logo is meant to represent waves & the spirit of the sea, in line with our diver focused watch, the Osimiri, and future ideas to come!

How did you come up with this design?

We knew what we wanted from the start for the Osimiri: a simple and clean design with understated elegance. Most important to us was the quality of the materials and the features offered. They had to be similar to those found in high-end divers but offered at a reasonable price.

Overall we refined the design and tested different proportions to get it to where we are at today. We used both older and modern divers as inspiration. The Tudor Pelagos, vintage 60’s Omega Seamaster and Sinn watches are a few that come to mind.

Are you making the watches or you hired a professional watchmaker?

We designed the watch and sourced all the different materials used. For the assembly, we have partnered with a professional watchmaker with over 30 years of experience that will do a better job than we can!

Are you planning to make other types of watches as well or only diverwatches?

The focus for now is on dive watches with unique designs and uncommon materials. With that being said, never say never!

What do I or my readers have to do to get a watch from you as soon as possible?

The Kickstarter link is available here with a few Early birds left:

And what do you want for the future?

Our goal is to make a brand that is known for its high quality, unique watches at very reasonable prices. The Osimiri is the first step in that direction!

Thank you for the nice interview and I hope your Kickstarter campaign will be successful!
